Tigers versus Lions. Brother versus Brother. It was bound to be a showdown as Valley Head’s new Head Coach Charles Hammon met Section and their Head Coach Chris Hammon on Friday night. Section came out hot and jumped out to a big 20-0 lead in the first half with a big 93-yard touchdown run from quarterback #23 Drake McCutchen. In the first half, Valley Head started to rally late with #22 Hernan Moreno, who earned a nine-yard touchdown run to cut the lead to 20-7. After the Tiger’s defense held strong, Valley Head’s quarterback #24 Eian Bain found #2 Ashton Brown for an 8-yard touchdown pass on fourth-and-3 to cut the deficit to 20-14 as they headed into halftime. However, that’s where the Tiger’s rally would fall as the Lion’s quarterback couldn’t be stopped. Section scored two more times in the second half to take the final victory at 34-14. Bain led the Tigers with 151 rushing yards on 29 carries, while the Tigers earned 268 total rushing yards. McCutchen led the Lions with 272 rushing yards on 13 carries with three touchdowns, while teammate Jr. Walker earned 60 yards on ten carries with two touchdowns. The win pushed Section to its first 2-0 start since the 2013 season. Section begins Class 2A Region 7 play this week as they travel to Tanner to take on the 0-2 Rattlers on Friday night, September 3 at 7:00 PM.
