A
Word From Principal Brown
North Jackson Press (NJP) is excited to bring to you “A Word From Principal Brown”. Cody Brown is the new Stevenson Elementary Principal and will share a message to parents from time to time in the NJP. Look for messages each month from Principal Brown.
“The
school year is off to a great start at Stevenson Elementary School (SES). Students are already deep in their classwork
working on new skills and trying-out our new Chrome Books. Excited faces line the hallways and fill each
classroom as our teachers and instructional aides deliver quality lessons to
our kids.
Much
of the new year’s excitement comes from the introduction of Chromebooks into
students’ hands. These devices, very
much like a laptop, are meant to serve as a complement to good instruction by
the teacher, not to replace the teacher.
If you ask your children about how they use these devices, you may
expect to hear varying answers. At SES,
we treat these new devices as a tool, very much like a calculator in a math
class. As student ability and comfort
increases, expect to hear your child talk more and more about how the
Chromebooks are used in their classrooms.
Our teachers and instructional aides are working very hard to build age
and ability-appropriate experiences with these devices. Currently, the plan is to use these devices
for our state test in the spring, the ACAP.
We
have also begun talking every day about the “Panther Standard.” We believe that everyone will rise or fall to
expectations. At SES, we have high
expectations of our students and of each other. We have been very pleased to see students
meeting and exceeding these expectations daily. At SES, it is becoming the norm to see one
student helping another pick up a dropped pencil box or a fourth-grade student
helping a younger student with a messy lunchroom tray. These expectations extend to academics as
well. Students have been hard at work,
laying the foundation for a successful year in the classroom. These high expectations are what make-up the
Panther Standard.
Parents,
we invite you to contact your child’s teacher.
You know your child better than anyone, and we want to help your child
learn and grow. If you have any concerns
about academics or anything else, please give us a call at school and set-up a
time to speak with your child’s teacher or the principal. Many teachers are already using the Remind
app or Class Dojo app to communicate with parents. We also encourage you to follow SES on
Facebook. Very soon, our school website
should be up and running, and we have several facility upgrades in the works as
well. It is an exciting time at SES and
its an exciting time to be a PANTHER!”
