Woodville routed Brindlee Mountain 46-6 in a dominating offense and defense performance last Friday night at Woodville. The Panthers secured their second win of the season following their 58-26 victory over Vina, which snapped their 14-game losing skid. Woodville scored early and often with a 37-yard run on a third and seventh in the first quarter as the Panthers broke free up the right side. In their next possession, Woodville rushed for an 8-yard touchdown, building a cushion lead against the Lions. In the second quarter, Weaver found Richard Rosas for a 31-yard touchdown pass making it 32-0 at the half. John Williams kicked off the second half with a Panther touchdown run at the 11:54 mark. A few plays later, Woodville received the ball for a Panthers first down, followed by another scoring drive with 4:49 left in the frame. A successful 2-point conversion lifted the score to 46-0. Brindlee Mountain (2-3) scored its lone touchdown late in the fourth quarter, deterring Woodville’s first shutout in more than six years. With the Homecoming win over Class 3A Brindlee Mountain foe, the Panthers improved to 2-3 overall. According to AHSFHS.org, the victory is also Woodville’s first against a Class 3A opponent. Woodville finished with 485 total yards, 105 of those passing and 380 rushing yards. Sam Peek ran for 134 yards, two touchdowns, and two 2-point conversions. Peek also completed 3 of 7 passes for 76 yards. Ace Weaver ran for 137 yards, two 2-point conversions on 20 carries, and threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Richard Rosas. Rosas finished with two catches for 53 yards. Weaver also caught a 37-yard pass, while Jayce Hucks caught a 17-yard pass. Woodville’s Class 1A, Region 7 matchup against Gaylesville was moved to Thursday night due to the possibility of rain from hurricane Ian.
