Scottsboro went into halftime with a 21-12 lead and rallied in the last minute to secure a 27-26 Class 6A Region 7 win against Southside on Friday, October 15. The win snapped a six-game losing streak for the Wildcats and moved them up in the region standings.
Scottsboro, down 6-0 after losing a fumble, used a 56-yard touchdown run from Caleb Lynch to take the lead. The Wildcats went up again after Jake Jones broke loose for a 42-yard score before Keelan Alvarez punched in a touchdown from 36-yards out to give Scottsboro the 21-12 halftime advantage.
Southside fought back in the second half and went ahead 26-21 after they scored in the third quarter and again with 3:40 left in the game. As the clock was dwindling down, the Wildcats strung together a 10-play 58-yard scoring drive to seal the win.
Scottsboro’s momentum was halted on a fourth-and-four situation at midfield, but Jones threw to Everett Loveless for a 17-yard reception to keep the drive alive. Alvarez punched in the winning touchdown.
Lynch led the Wildcats with 69 yards rushing on five carries, while Alvarez had 67 yards on 18 carries plus two passes for 38 yards. Jones was 4-of-9 passing for 62 yards and 40 yards rushing. Barclay Butler had three sacks and a fumble recovery, while Sam Dukes had a sack and a fumble recovery at the end of the game to seal the Wildcats victory.
On Friday, October 22, Scottsboro closes out region play with their last home game against Pell City (1-7).
