Story By Cinthia Rico The Scottsboro Wildcats built a 24-0 first-half lead en route to a 45-14 first-round playoff victory over Brewer last Friday at Trammell Stadium. Jake Jones opened up scoring for the Wildcats at the 11:13 mark of the second quarter with a 22-yard touchdown, making it 7-0. With their offense rolling, Scottsboro marched 34 yards into Patriot territory. Keelan Alvarez capped the five-play drive with a 6-yard scoring run. Cole Raeuchle added a point after. Raeuchle booted a 25-yard field goal a few plays later to further the Wildcats lead 17-0. With only 41 seconds left till the half, Thomas Rackler broke free for a 6-yard run behind a 56-yard drive. Scottsboro held the Patriots scoreless until the third when Caden Childers found Austyn Holmes on a 64-yard touchdown pass. David Perez added a PAT to cut the score 24-7. The Wildcats answered with a 10 TD from Alvarez behind four plays for 38 yards. On their next possession, Alvarez added his third score of the evening, furthering Scottsboro’s lead to 38-7 at the end of the third. Jake Jones drove in Scottsboro’s final score, capping an 84-yard drive with a 50-yard touchdown run. Brewer’s Walker Lathem caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from Childers with less than three minutes left of regulation play, making it 45-14. Jones rushed for 171 yards on seven attempts and two touchdowns for Scottsboro. Alvarez had 14 carries for 76 yards and two touchdowns. The Wildcats (7-4, 5-1) make their way to Leeds (10-0, 6-0) today for a second-round playoff matchup at Homer Smiles Field.
