The Drug Store at Stevenson is now open and ready to service the City of Stevenson and the surrounding area. The pharmacy is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am until 5:30 pm. Saturday’s hours are 9:00 am until noon, and the store is closed on Sunday. Owners Emily Layne and Jeremy York, along with Pharmacist Danielle Steward, invite you to visit them soon.
The store specializes in meeting your pharmaceutical needs by offering prescription medication, compound medicine, vaccines, durable medical equipment, braces, walkers, and they can connect customers with vendors who provide oxygen therapy. They also work with doctors to coordinate prescriptions and manage medicines to streamline everything to make it affordable.
North Jackson Press (NJP) spoke with the owners about their new adventure. Pharmacist Emily Layne told NJP that she had been in the pharmacy business for most of her life. When she was a little girl, she would accompany her dad (also a pharmacist) to the drugstore every Saturday and each summer to dust shelves and hang out with her dad. He owned a pharmacy in South Pittsburg, and from the time she was eight until she left home, she was by his side at the drugstore. Lane received her pharmacy degree from Auburn University.
Pharmacist Jeremy York has been in the pharmacy world for twenty-five years. He is a Samford graduate. While in college, York worked at a pharmacy in Steveson, and after graduating, joined a pharmacy in South Pittsburg. He said he was very excited to be back in Stevenson.
NJP asked the owners why they chose Stevenson as the home for their new store. Layne stated, “My dad’s dream was to have a store in Stevenson. He had a store in South Pittsburg, but his buddies Peanut Wilkerson and John Wayne Thompson owned one in Stevenson. He didn’t want to interfere with them, even though he wanted to be here.” York added, “We both have a connection to Stevenson and a passion for this area. I, basically, pharmacy-wise, grew up here, and Emily grew up here physically. I still have a lot of family here. My mom’s family is from Flat Rock, so this store serves that area. This service is a way to give back to the community that has given us a lot.”
The owners also told NJP that they chose the old bank location to help revitalize downtown Stevenson, which in the past was the center of activity. They hope to see it thrive again and see more and more businesses relocate downtown.
When asked, “What do you want the readers to know?” Layne and York stated, “We are here to help people; if they need help, we are here for them. We will treat everyone like family, and they will eventually become family. We appreciate the opportunity to serve everyone.”
