North Jackson traveled to Sylvania last Friday for its 2022 fall jamboree falling short 28-26. In the opening period, North Jackson’s Diego Holt rushed for a touchdown, placing the Chiefs on the scoreboard before Sylvania’s Jaxon Smith connected with Josh Scott on a touchdown pass. Conner Andrade kicked a good PAT bringing the score to 7-6 with 1:46 left in the first quarter. The Rams carried their momentum into the second quarter with a TD from Zack Anderson and a good PAT from Andrade. The Chiefs answered with a touchdown of their own, as Holt rushed for his second touchdown of the night in an attempt to close the gap with a 12-14 score. Roman McKeehan caught a 30-yard touchdown pass, and Andrade added a good PAT, giving Sylvania a 21-12 advantage. However, North Jackson hustled for a touchdown and a two-point conversion bringing the score to 21-20 at the half. The second half saw fumbles from both sides as the Ram continued to drive, and Aiden Parham secured the final touchdown of the evening for a 28-26 final. Friday night’s crowd-grabbing preseason game, Sylvania and North Jackson showed their prospective teams’ potential as they get ready to enter regular season play. The Chiefs open the season at home against non-region rival Scottsboro on Friday, Aug. 26, at R.D. Hicks Stadium. North Jackson had a close 12-16 loss last season to the Wildcats and looks to improve on that in the coming up match. The two teams have met on the field 34 times, the Chiefs winning 21 of those games and Scottsboro 13.
