Story and Photos by Cinthia Rico Sand Rock’s Carson Chesnut lifted the Wildcats to a 35-6 victory over the Lions in last Thursday’s Class 2A, Region 7 matchup at Section. After multiple unsuccessful drives, Sand Rock took control of the ball as Chesnut connected with Jace Turner on an 11-yard touchdown pass late in the first quarter to put the Wildcats (2-2, 1-1) with a 7-0 advantage. The Wildcats continued their offensive drive, adding two more scores in the second quarter to provide Sand Rock a 21-0 advantage at halftime as Section (0-4, 0-2) struggled with bad snaps. Chesnut opened the third-quarter scoring with a 13-yard run at the 7:27 mark. He added his final touchdown on a 48-yard run with less than five minutes remaining in the third. Section scored its lone touchdown late in the game with Jedidah Sparks’s 4-yard run on the final play of the game. Jr. Walker led the Lions with 104 yards on 22 carries. Sand Rock’s Chesnut completed 11-of-14 pass attempts for 127 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 100 yards on just six carries with four scores. Trace Haygood added 76 yards on 13 carries for Sand Rock, Everett DeBoard caught a pair of passes for 54 yards, and Gatlin Cox caught four passes for 43 yards. Sand Rock travels to Collinsville on Friday. Section travels to top-ranked Fyffe (3-0,2-0) for a Class 2A, Region 7 matchup at Paul Benefield Stadium.
