The Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association recently announced the 2022 North-South All-Star girls and boys golf teams.
The teams are 2023 rising seniors chosen by the Golf Coaches Committee comprised of representatives selected by and representing each of the eight districts.
The players were selected from nominations received from AHSAA member school coaches.
In Class 6A, Scottsboros’ Abby Hambrick and Kaitlyn Price were named to the North Girls’ All-Star team.
“The golf all-star selections are an outstanding group of golfers who have really dedicated themselves to the sport of golf,” said Brandon Dean, director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association. “We expect the competition at this year’s North-South All-Star competition to be as strong as ever.”
The AHSAA Summer Conference, annually attended by more than 4,000 coaches and administrators, will be July 18-22 in Montgomery.
That same week, the golf competition which also featured North-South all-star softball, baseball, cross country, soccer, volleyball, boys and girls basketball, and tennis will take place.
The annual North-South All-Star football game is played in Mobile in December following the conclusion of the football season.
The North-South All-Star girls’ golf coaches are (North) Chad Willis, Muscle Shoals High School; Craig Kiker, Alexandria High School; and Keat Litton, Spain Park High School (administrative coach); (South) Tim Bethea, Trinity Presbyterian High School; and Jay Koziol, UMS-Wright High School, administrative coach.
The North-South All-Star boys’ golf coaches include (North) Stephanie Meadows, Vestavia Hills High School; Jonathan Hayes, Cullman High School; and Keat Litton, Spain Park High School (administrative coach); (South) Rex Bynum, Enterprise High School; and Jay Koziol, UMS-Wright High School, administrative coach.
Per AHSAA officials, the South All-Stars nipped the North All-Stars 19.5 to 16.5 in the rain-shortened AHSAA North-South All-Star golf match play competition, and the North Boys won 20-10 over the South squad in the 2021 North-South all-star competition held at Arrowhead Golf Club.
The North boys now hold a 2-0 lead in its series with the South, first played in 2019. The North and South girls are now even at 1-1.
