Story By Cinthia Rico Scottsboro defeated North Jackson 27-18 during last Friday’s “Battle of the Valley” matchup at R.D. Hicks Stadium. The win marks the Wildcats’ fourth consecutive victory against the Chiefs. Scottsboro’s Davon Walker got things started with a 5-yard touchdown run in the first frame as the team’s offense got going. North Jackson answered with Nick Jernagin connecting with Diego Holt for a 20-yard touchdown. Alvarez scored a 35-yard touchdown run on the following drive, putting the Wildcats up 14-6. Jernagin and Holt connected for a second time on a 15-yard touchdown pass. The Chiefs’ two-point attempt to tie the frame was unsuccessful and Scottsboro led 14-12 at the half. At the start of the third, North Jackson took the lead on a Holt touchdown run, bringing the score to 18-14. With less than 2 minutes left in third, Scottsboro Jake Jone rushed for a TD boosting the Wildcats 20-18. Alvarez led the Wildcat offense with 160 yards rushing on 28 carries and two touchdowns, and Jones finished with 82 yards on eight carries and a touchdown. North Jackson’s Holt had 17 carries for 119 yards and a touchdown, catching three passes for 45 yards and two touchdowns. Jernagin was 12-of-19 passing for 142 yards and two touchdowns. Scottsboro travels to Boaz on Friday for a Class 5A, Region 7 play. North Jackson travels to Westminster Christian Academy on Friday for a Class 4A, Region 8 matchup.
