Story by Cinthia Rico Scottsboro secured a home first-round playoff berth with a 28-14 win over region foe Douglas last Friday night at Arthur Jarvis Stadium. The two traded scores in the first half as Jake Jones opened up scoring, capping a 7-play series with a 16-yard run. Cole Raeuchle added a good PAT. The Eagles answered with a Dakota Steward 2-yard scoring run and a Judah Bearden point-after kick to make it 7-7 at the end of the first quarter. Early in the second frame, Keelan Alvarez broke free for a 5-yards touchdown. Raeuchle kicked a good PAT. Eight plays later, Stewart scored on a 4-yard run and Bearded added a point after for a 14-14 tie at intermission. The Wildcats pulled away midway through the second half, marching 55 yards and setting up Jones for his second scoring run. At the 1:51 mark of the final quarter, Jayden Gilbert capped an 11-play series with a 51-yard scoring run to seal Scottsboro’s victory over Douglas. Arab’s regional title over Guntersville helped the Wildcats secure the second-spot finish in Class 5A, Region 7. Alvarez led the Wildcats with 164 yards on 25 carries. Jones finished with 109 yards on 14 carries and completed 3 of 7 passes for 50 yards, Thomas Rackler ran 65 yards on eight carries, and Gilbert had 55 yards on two carries. Scottsboro (5-3, 4-1) caps its region play today against Crossville (0-8) at Trammell Stadium. The two last met in 2017.
