The North Jackson Lady Chiefs took the lead late and defeated Wilson 17-11 last Friday, May 10, in the Class 4A finals of the AHSAA North Region Softball Tournament in Florence. The win punched North Jackson’s ticket to the state tournament this week in Montgomery. The game was tied at eight with the Lady Chiefs batting in the bottom of the sixth when Kassidy Holder drew a walk, scoring one run. Hadley Burnette led North Jackson to victory by driving in five runs. She went 2-for-5 at the plate. Burnette drove in runs on a single in the fifth and a grand slam in the sixth.
The Lady Chiefs opened the scoring in the first inning when Holder singled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs. Wilson scored three runs in the seventh inning. Josie Thompson was the winning pitcher for North Jackson. She went seven innings, allowing eight runs on 14 hits and striking out five. The Lady Chiefs smacked five home runs on the day. Amber Atkins went yard in the sixth inning. Mikaela Barnes went deep in the third inning. Burnette had a long ball in the sixth inning. Ja’khia Hutchins had a dinger in the third inning. Thompson went for the long ball in the first inning. North Jackson tallied 13 hits. Atkins, Barnes, Burnette, and Hutchins all managed multiple hits for the Lady Jackson Lady Chiefs. North Jackson went 3-0 through regionals taking a 10-0 win over West Morgan and an 11-0 win over Rogers to make the finals against Wilson. The Lady Eagles outscored their opponents in the tournament 38-11. North Jackson is scheduled to face off against Holtville Friday, May 17, at 10:45 am in the first round of the state tournament in Montgomery.
