Scottsboro is a part of Oneonta High School’s history as the Redskins earned their 700th all-time victory on Friday night against the Wildcats 35-14. Oneonta’s football program started back in 1912, and the Redskins all-time record is now 700-360-3, according to the Alabama High School Football Historical Society. Oneonta used big special teams’ returns to put the exclamation point in their victory.
The Redskins opened the scoring with a 73-yard punt return for a touchdown to take the early 7-0 lead. Oneonta set up a scoring drive that was capped off with a 34-yard touchdown pass before the Redskins returned a 65-yard punt to take the 21-0 halftime advantage.
The Redskins put up two touchdowns in the third quarter to stretch their lead to 35-0 before the Wildcats got on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter. Jake Jones punched in six points from 20-yards out, and Caleb Lynch found the endzone from 11-yards out to give the Wildcats 14 points. Scottsboro earned 211 total yards with 171 rushing yards on the night. Keelan Alvarez led the Wildcats with 98 yards on 19 carries, Jones had 24 yards on 15 carries, and Lynch had 20 yards on five carries. Jones went 5-for-14, passing for 40 yards, while Kyle Wright caught three passes for 20 yards. Scottsboro (1-6) heads to Southside (5-4, 3-3) for a region matchup on Friday night.
