West Morgan slipped past North Jackson Friday night in another close, hard-fought loss for the Chiefs. The Rebels found the endzone twice in the opening period, but North Jackson answered both times with a 4-yard touchdown run by Brady Cunningham and a 20-yard touchdown strike from Carter Gass to Cunningham. The Chiefs failed on 2-point conversion tries after both scores and trailed 13-12 after one-quarter of play. North Jackson took one step back midway of the second quarter when Brody Dalton fell on a fumbled snap in his endzone to give the Rebels a safety. However, the Chiefs took the lead with three minutes left in the second on a 17-yard touchdown strike from Morris to Johnny Gilliam. Both teams got quick scores just before the end of the second quarter, and North Jackson took a 26-23 lead into halftime. Gass stretched the Chiefs’ lead in the third quarter with a 2-yard touchdown run, but West Morgan came right back with a 52-yard scoring run. Gilliam then counterpunched with a 77-yard touchdown run of his own. The Rebels added another touchdown late in the third, and North Jackson took a tenuous 40-37 lead into the fourth quarter. West Morgan’s Cade Alexander scored twice in the final period to give the Rebels the lead for good. Gilliam added one more score for the Chiefs, but it wasn’t enough, and West Morgan slipped past North Jackson 51-46. Gilliam led the Chiefs’ offensive effort with 230 rushing yards and 117 receiving yards. Morris and Gass threw for 114 and 130 yards, respectively.
