Staff Reports Scottsboro fell short 28-21 against undefeated Priceville on Friday, September 23. The Wildcats opened the scoring with a Keelan Alvarez 31-yard run and a Cole Raeuchle kick in the first quarter. Priceville answered on a Jack Prickett 12-yard run, a good PAT by Weston Dutton for a 7-7 tie. Early in the second, Scottsboro regained the lead on a Jake Jone rush for a 23-yard touchdown, point after failed, making it 13-7. However, Priceville’s Jack hit Xander Gaines with an 18-yard touchdown pass. Dutton’s successful PAT brought the score to take the lead at 14-13. At intermission, Scottsboro trailed 14-13. The Wildcat defense put in some work as the second half got underway. In the third, Jake Jone broke free for a 12-yard touchdown run at the 2:07 mark. Thomas Steward’s successful 2-point conversion lifted Scottsboro ahead 21-14. Priceville rushed for 78 yards on 15 plays in the final frame, as Gaines scored the equalizer on a 3-yard run and Dutton added a point after. The Bulldogs rallied in the final minutes of play, scoring two touchdowns, pulling away with only 46 seconds left as Mason Cartee rushed for a 1-yard touchdown. Dutton’s point after for a 28-21 victory over the Wildcats following their first ever encounter. The Wildcats ran for 240 yards to Priceville 303. Cartee ran for 148 yards on 22 carries, Gaines had 67 yards on 14 carries, and Jaylen Mosley finished with 38 yards on ten carries. Jones ran for 104 yards on 14 carries and went 4 of 9 passing for 28 yards. Alvarez had 90 yards on ten carries, while Steward finished with 36 yards on six carries. This week Scottsboro (2-3) looked to bounce back as they renewed their longtime rivalry against top-ranked Guntersville (6-0) in a Class 5A, Region 7 matchup at Trammell Stadium. The two last met in 2019 when the Wildcats came out on top 42-14. The game moved to Thursday September 29, due to the possibility of rain from hurricane Ian.
