The Alabama Sports Writers Association recently released its preseason rankings featuring the top teams in the state.
In Class 2A, Pisgah ranked third, behind B.B. Comer and Fyffe.
The Eagles finished their 2022 season with an overall record of 11-3, a region record of 6-1, and a second-place finish in Region 7 of Class 2A.
Last year, Pisgah made a strong playoff run under the direction of head coach Luke Pruitt, who is entering his sixth season at the helm. The Eagles made it to the semifinals before losing to top-ranked Fyffe by a score of 41-14.
Scottsboro was one of the other teams who received votes but finished outside of the top 10, leaving Pisgah as the only Jackson County team to crack the top 10.
The Wildcats wrapped up their campaign in 2022 with a 7-5 overall record and a 5-1 area record.
The season will begin with all seven defending AHSAA state champions ranked atop their respective divisions.
