Pisgah
Girls Remain Undefeated
By Nick Hall
The two-time
defending state champion Pisgah girls’ basketball team continued to show why
they are the best, taking down challengers North Sand Mountain on the road and
Plainview at home. However, the boys had
a tougher go of it. Read below for the
details.

Pisgah’s
girls did what Pisgah girls do; jump on their opponents early and never let up. The Eagles led NSM 12-9 after one period and
36-24 at halftime. The Bison tried to
mount a rally after the half that was quashed by a 10-0 Pisgah run. The Eagles led 68-39 at the end of the third
and sailed to victory with a running clock in the final period. Molly Heard and Chloe Womack each finished
with 16 points. Kallie Tinker netted 13,
followed by Layla Hatfield with nine.
Madison Myers contributed eight points, six rebounds, four steals, and
three assists.
Pisgah 68, Plainview 41
The Eagles
continued to roll against Plainview, surging to a 29-8 lead after the first
frame. It didn’t get any easier for the
Bears as they found themselves down 49-17 at the half and 65-35 after three
periods of play. Heard had a good outing
with 15 points, six rebounds and seven steals, followed by Womack with 12
points, five rebounds and six assists.
Myers added 10 points, five steals, five rebounds and four assists. Hatfield netted 11 points, while Tinker had
seven. Bella Bobo contributed four
points and five rebounds while Kennedy Barron hauled in nine rebounds.

NSM
continued to pile up the points last week against visiting Pisgah. After leading 27-20 after the opening period,
the Herd thundered their way to a 57-38 halftime lead and a 78-62 lead after
the third period. Rhyan Barrett and
Jared Wilks scored 24 points each for Pisgah.
Austin Brown added 12 points, followed by Austin Thornhill with eight,
Nate Cornelison with seven and Zac Cornelison with six. Russ Marr continued
with the hot hand, netting 42 points.
Luke Maples returned from an injury and contributed 19 points and seven
assists. Derek Bearden added 10 points
and five assists, while Noah Helton and Jared Beasley netted nine each.
Pisgah
64, Plainview 74
Plainview ran into a buzz saw last Thursday at Carey Ellison
Gymnasium in Pisgah. The upset minded
Eagles caught the two-time defending Class 3A state champs in a shooting
drought and took them to the fourth quarter in a game that stayed extremely
close until the final minutes and saw multiple lead changes. The Eagles led 16-8 at the end of one period
and 30-25 at the intermission. Plainview
wouldn’t take the lead until early in the third and they would relinquish it
more than once before the final buzzer.
Pisgah led 58-57 at the end of the third frame, but Plainview was able
to hit some shots down the stretch to finally pull away for good. Wilks led the Eagles with 21 points, followed
by Barrett with 15, Austin Brown with 11 and Nate Cornelison with nine. Luke Smith led Plainview on both ends of the
floor, posting a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead the
Bears. Smith also added five steals and
one assist. Tristan Willingham finished
with 20 points. Cole Millican netted 12
points and pulled down eight rebounds, followed by Grant Sanders with nine
points and five rebounds and Dylan Haymon with eight points and two rebounds.
