Story by Cinthia Rico Despite a fighting performance by the Panthers, Pisgah edged Collinsville 40-28 last Thursday to extend their undefeated record. With the win, Pisgah moved to 3-0 overall and Collinsville to 2-1. Mason McAteer connected with Gavin Land for a 16-yard touchdown in the second quarter. An Eagle turnover extended the Panthers’ advantage 14-6 in the first half. At the half, Pisgah led 20-14 after a Legion McCrary 1-yard touchdown with seconds on the clock. A DeBoard 63-yard score gave the Panthers the lead in the third. Then McAteer connected with Fernando Padilla for a 20-yard TD, bringing the score to 21-20 Collinsville. An Eagle turnover contributed to Collinsville’s advantage, with Deboard scoring for a 28-20 lead. The Eagles answered with a 92-yard score when Mason Holcomb connected with Luke Gilbert for a 19-yard touchdown. Holcomb found Grant Smith to execute a 2-point conversion putting Pisgah ahead 34-28 early in the fourth quarter. With less than two minutes left of regulation, Jakob Kirby rushed for a 19-yard TD Pass from Holcomb. Kirby sealed the win with an 18-yard TD pass as Pisgah bested Collinsville 40-28 at Sam Kenimer Stadium. The Eagles amassed 463 total yards and 168 rushing on 53 plays. Holcomb finished 14-of-21 passing, McCrary had 114 rushing yards and two TD on 18 carries, and Gilbert had six receptions for 64 yards. Collinsville’s Mason McAteer threw two touchdown passes for 121 yards with an interception, and Keaton DeBoard ran for 175 yards and two scores. The loss was the Panthers’ first of the season. Collinsville looks to rebound as the host rival Sand Rock (2-2) on Friday. Pisgah travels to Ider on Friday at Wayne C. Hardman Stadium for a Class 2A, Region 7 matchup.
