On Tuesday, January 12, 2021, funeral services were held at 2:00 PM from Agape Baptist Church in Scottsboro, with Reverend Donna King officiating.  Burial followed in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

David Porter Lyda, age 88 of Stevenson, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2021, at his residence.  On Tuesday, January 12, 2021, a graveside service was held at 11:00 AM from the Lyda Family Cemetery with Brother Brandon Evans officiating.

Mr. Lyda is survived by:  Son and Daughter in Law – Glenn D. and Annette Lyda.  Grandchildren – Jacob (Alicia) Lyda and Jill Thomas.  Great Grandchildren, – Early, Zeb, Macy, and Keilan.

He was preceded in death by:  Wife of 56 years – Maybell Lyda.  Parents – Jacob Cleveland and Minnie Smith Lyda.  2 Sisters and 6 Brothers.

Edna Faye Maynor Hess, age 76 of Hollywood, passed away Friday, January 1, 2021.  A graveside service was held on Sunday, January 3, 2021, at 1:00 PM from Pinehaven Memorial Gardens with Judy Hamner officiating.

Mr. Danny Lee Potts

Danny Lee Potts, age 68, of Woodville, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021.  On Wednesday, January 6, 2021, a graveside service was held at 10:00 AM from Union Cemetery with Reverend Ron Hardeman and Chaplain Coy Hallmark officiating.  

Mr. Potts was a veteran of the United States Army.  He completed basic training in Fork Polk, Louisiana, then went to AIT (Advanced Individual Training) in Fort Eustis, Virginia.  He completed his training as a 68-F20 Aircraft Electrician.  Mr. Potts served in Vietnam and served with the 101^st Airborne Division, A Company, 5^th Transportation Battalion at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where he completed his active duty service at the rank of SP4 (Specialist 4th Class) (E-4). He received a Special Service Medal, W/1 Campaign Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, 1 Overseas Service Bar, Expert Badge (M-16), and a Good Conduct Medal.

JoAnne Reid, age 74 of Scottsboro, passed away Monday, January 4, 2021, at Highlands Medical Center. A visitation service was held on Friday, January 8, 2021, from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Scottsboro Funeral Home.  Burial followed on Monday, January 11, 2021, at 11:00 AM from the National Military Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio.

Bobby Ray Brown, age 50 of Gurley, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2020.  Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 2, 2021, at 2:00 PM from the Grant Memorial Chapel with Cory Brown officiating.  Burial followed in Kelley Chapel Cemetery on Gunter’s Mountain.  Mr. Brown was a veteran of the United States Navy.  He served four years and was deployed during Operation Desert Storm.

William Gordon “Bill” Batey, age 96 of Scottsboro, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2021.  On Tuesday, January 12, 2021, funeral services were held at 2:00 PM from the Valley Funeral Home – Scottsboro Chapel with Jeremy Wilson and Joe Moore officiating.  Burial followed in Pinehaven Memorial Gardens.
