As the end of the football season approaches, teams look at their records and think about the postseason. With North Jackson’s 24-14 loss to Randolph on Friday night, the Chiefs are now in third place in Class 4A Region 7. North Jackson held Randolph to minus 11 yards rushing on 30 carries, but Randolph used their passing game to take the lead. The Raiders made a 53-yard pass on the first play of the game, which set up a 33-yard field goal to get the 3-0 lead. In the second quarter, the Raiders caught a 31-yard touchdown pass to stretch the lead to 10-0. North Jackson got on the board when Dalton Morris found Brady Cunningham for a 48-yard touchdown pass to put the Chiefs back in the game at 10-6. Randolph answered with a pick-6 just before the break to give the Raiders a 17-6 halftime lead.
The Chiefs continued to battle back in the second half as Macklin Guess punched in a 2-yard touchdown run plus an extra-two to pull within 17-14 with 9:30 remaining in the game. The Chiefs threw another interception that set up the final Raider score that sealed the game. Morris finished 15-of-31 passing for 124 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 41 yards on 18 carries. Cunningham caught nine passes for 82 yards and a score while Guess ran for 30 yards and a touchdown on seven carries.
North Jackson seeks a region win to secure a playoff berth as they compete against St John Paul II (0-7, 0-5) at their home stadium on Friday night.
