By Cinthia Rico [email protected] North Sand Mountain – No. 1 seeded Pisgah claims 15 annual Sand Mountain Basketball Tournament, defeating No. 2 Plainview over the Christmas break. The Eagles led the first half 47-37 as the two teams fought for dominance. Coming back full force during the second half of the 2021 SMT, the Bears added 27 points but wasn’t enough to break away from Pisgah’s driving force. Plainview’s Saydi Jackson finished with a game-high of 25 points, Lauren Jimmerson added 13 points as the Bears fell 71-64 to Pisgah’s strong defense. Mylie Butler contributed eight points including two foul shots, and Sawyer Hulgan added six points. Pisgah’s Kallie Tinker contributed 15 points as the Eagles aimed to capture the top title and Karlee Holcomb added eight points. With a minute left, Pisgah pulled away with the help of Campbell Barron’s free throws as the Eagles claimed the 2021 SMT championship.
