Day two: We had another busy day. We woke at 6 a.m. (Eastern Time), which gave us plenty of time to eat and visit with friends before the morning service. Since we had forgotten to pack some important items, a trip to the next town (Robbinsville, NC, 20 miles away) to a drugstore became necessary. We anticipated having plenty of time to be back at Fontana Resort by 10:30 a.m. with time to spare. But again, that “best-laid plans…” thing came into play.
There is road construction between Robbinsville and Fontana Dam on a 2-lane road with one lane completely closed, causing delays. So, just the drive to Robbinsville took us much longer than expected. We finally got there and found the Walgreens to get the items we needed, but it wasn’t as easy as it should have been. The medication is a prescription pill, so the first order of business was to call the doctor’s office in Fort Payne, Ala., to get them to send a prescription for only a few pills to Walgreens in Robbinsville, N.C. The nurse said she’d do that in just a minute so we wouldn’t have to wait. Wrong! I’m not sure what took so long, but we waited at least 30 minutes before the doctor’s office actually called the prescription into Walgreens in Robbinsville, N.C. Finally, the girl at the pharmacy in Robbinsville let us know that they had received the prescription and they would have it ready in just a few minutes. Again, wrong! I can’t imagine what took so long, but it seemed like we waited about 30 minutes after she had already said it would be ready in a few minutes. Then, we had that 20-mile trip through the road construction area back to Fontana Resort. It really wasn’t too bad, and nothing went terribly wrong, but it was not exactly a relaxing morning. We arrived back at Fontana Resort at about 10:35 (only five minutes late) and got there during the opening prayer. It was another really good service, and we were glad we got back for it.
After lunch, we had time to go back to the cabins to rest, but not too long as the afternoon service was scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m., and the night service was to begin at 7:30 p.m. with dinner in between.
