Coach Charles Hammon’s Valley Head Tigers earned their first season victory on Friday night against Woodville 46-8 and put up major yardage against the Panthers. The Tigers finished the night with 520 total yards with 402 rushing yards on offense, and the defense forced three turnovers and held Woodville to 170 yards.
Valley Head’s Eian Bain completed a 35-yard touchdown pass to Mason Vest to first get the Tigers on the board. Bain ran in for the next six points from 39-yards out, and Ashton Brown ended the first quarter with a 53-yard touchdown to give the Tigers the 20-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter saw scores from Brown from 23-yards out, an 83-yard touchdown reception from Pacey Cooper, and an 81-yard touchdown run by Bain to take the 39-0 edge into the locker room for the break.
The scoring frenzy slowed down in the second half and only saw a 56-yard touchdown run from Valley Head’s Brown to cap the Tigers score at 46. Woodville earned their first points of the game in the fourth quarter from an 11-yard touchdown run from Sam Peek. Ace Weaver pressed in the 2-point conversion for the Panthers. Quarterback Eian Bain went 2-for-2 with 118 yards and two touchdowns, while Ashton Brown was the lead rusher with 181 yards on eight carries with three touchdowns. Woodville’s Peek rushed for 118 yards on 22 carries with one touchdown, while Justice Archer had two receptions for 72 yards. Valley Head improves to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in Class 1A region seven play and prepares to host Gaylesville in their next region matchup on Friday night. Woodville drops to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in region play and will travel to Sumiton Christian on Friday night.
