PISGAH—Jackson County School teams kicked off the 2024 Cross Country season this week at various sites, including the Pisgah Invitational 2024 at ToKnowHIM Trails in Pisgah on Saturday.
In the Class 1A-3A Boys 5000 Meter Run, Pisgah’s Emanuel Elizondo placed fourth overall in the Top 15 with a time of 19:00.84, followed by Tristin Cuzzort in ninth place with a time of 20:31.66.
The 1A-3A Boys 5000 Meter Run finals team scores were as follows: in first place Sand Rock with 34 points, in second place Athens Bible School with 71 points, in third place Sylvania High School with 73 points, in fourth place Pisgah High School with 73 points, in fifth place West End High School with 131 points, in sixth place Collinsville High School with 154 points, and in seventh place Section High School with 158 points.
In the Class 1A-3A Girls 5000 Meter Run, Pisgah’s Nevaeh Evans placed second with a time of 22:44.68, followed by teammates Addison Schultz in third with a time of 23:11.80, Katie Edwards in fourth with a time of 23:26.04, Camilla Flores in 10th place with a time of 24:59.68, and securing the fifth spot in the Top 15 for Pisgah was Taylor Bell in 12th place with a time of 25:20.44.
Pisgah High School claimed the top spot with a team score of 30, followed by Sand Rock with 47 points, West End High School in third with 63 points, Athens Bible School in fourth with 88 points, Sylvania High School in fifth with 164 points, Skyline High School in sixth with 164 points, and Collinsville High School in seventh with 167 points.
No Jackson County team competed in the large school Class 4A–7A 5000-Meter Run. The following were the team scores for the 4A-7A Boys 5000 Meter Run Finals: Buckhorn in first place with 35 points, Arab in second place with 53 points, Fort Payne in third place with 74 points, Douglas High School in fourth place with 105 points, Plainview High School in fifth place with 116 points, Gadsden City in sixth place with 160 points, and Madison County in seventh place with 164 points.
In the Class 4A-7A 5000 Meter Run, North Jackson’s Lyenia Kelley posted a 40th place finish with a time of 30:58.87, and Mattie Mabe placed 43rd with a time of 36:19.06.
With an overall score of 21, the Fort Payne Wildcats won the Girls 5000 Meter Team Competition. Buckhorn came in second with 44 points, while Douglas High School finished third with 67 points.
