Story and Photo by Cinthia Rico Fox Tinker’s 4-yard touchdown in the opening quarter set the pace for Pisgah’s 41-14 victory over Sand Rock last Friday during the Class 2A, Region 7 showdown. Sand Rock answered with a 13-yard Carson Chesnut touchdown pass to Logan Crider and a good PAT from Haygood to even the score 7-7. However, the Eagles were not done as they picked up momentum with a 12-yard Holcomb touchdown run followed by a successful 2-point conversion at the end of the quarter. Early in the second quarter, Holcomb connected with Luke Gilbert for a 20-yard pass, and Legion McCray ran for a successful 2-point conversion, driving the Eagles’ advantage to 21-7. The Holcomb and Gilbert duo connected again on a 63-yard score and a PAT from Dalton Johnson, lifting Pisgah to a 28-7 lead. With less than four minutes left of the first half, Holcomb found Jakob Kirby for a 14-yard touchdown pass. Johnson’s extra point brought the Eagles up 35-7. Tinker rushed for 7-yards for Pisgah’s final first-half touchdown advancing their lead to 47-7 at the half. The Wildcats’ final touchdown of the night came in the last quarter as Gatlin Cox broke free for a 5-yard run. Holcomb connected on 4-of-10 pass attempts for 97 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 35 yards on five carries for the Eagles. Tinker tallied 53 yards on three carries with two touchdowns. Sand Rocks Haygood led with 60 yards on 15 carries. Chesnut completed 6-of-12 pass attempts for 52 yards and a touchdown and ran for 35 yards on eight carries. The Eagles hosted Collinsville (2-0) on Thursday, a game originally scheduled for Friday. The two last met on the field in 2001, when the Eagles won 50-9.
