Despite their efforts Scottsboro fell 20-6 against TopCat rival Fort Payne last Friday at Trammell Stadium. Fort Payne captured its fourth consecutive TopCat victory over Scottsboro, holding the Wildcats scoreless for three quarters of the game. Alex Akins got things started for the Fort Payne Wildcats with a 4-yard run, adding another touchdown with 1:56 remaining in the second quarter as he rushed for seven yards and Conner Hughes nailed the PAT. At the half Fort Payne held Scottsboro scoreless, with a 13-0 advantage. Jake Barnes had a 11 yard drive and a 19 yard drive. In the third, Barnes, Nolan Fowler and Kaden Dubose connected for a TD with 8:35 left, as the Fort Payne Wildcats continued to pull away with a 20-0 lead. Fort Payne’ defense limited Scottsboro’s 104 rushing yards and 169 offense yards to Fort Payne’s 206 rushing and 281 offensive. Scottsboros lone touchdown came in the final quarter with only two seconds remaining, Jake Jones threw a 22-yard pass to Jayden Gilbert giving Scottsboro a first-and-goal from the Fort Payne 2-yard line followed by Porter Mitchem 2-yard TD run. Jones led the Wildcats with 31 yards on eight carries, Mitchem ran for 23 yards, Davon Walker ran for 18 yards, Thomas Rackler ran for 17 and Keelan Alvarez ran for 15 yards. With the loss Scottsboro moves to 0-1 for the season as they travel to North Jackson on Friday night for the annual Battle of the Valley. Fort Payne hosts Etowah for its regular-season opener at Wildcat Stadium on Friday night.
