Staff Report Mayor McCamy of Scottsboro signed a proclamation naming February 2024 as Spay and Neuter Awareness Month in the City of Scottsboro, Alabama. This awareness is meant to bring attention to the pet overpopulation crisis and the most effective and humane solution to the problem: spay and neuter. The City of Scottsboro encourages all residents to have their pets spayed or neutered and to support the work and mission of Spay Neuter Jackson County, Alabama. Spay Neuter Jackson County, AL, is beginning its seventh year of assisting Scottsboro and Jackson County residents with the cost of spaying and neutering their pets. Because of their efforts, 687 pets were spayed and neutered in 2023, making a total of 3,752 pets since 2017. The organization stated that this was an incredible accomplishment, and it would like to take the time to thank all area veterinarians for their support of Spay and Neuter Jackson County. Scheduled with their ongoing programs, Spay and Neuter Awareness Month will include a transport on February 6th, Romeo Special: Male Cat Only Transport, and a special event at Phillips Small Animal Clinic. They will also be giving away a cat spay or neuter and a dog spay or neuter during February. For more information regarding any of the details listed, you can check out their Facebook page.
