A Jackson County native, Amanda Adkins, is the newest addition to the Medical Professions division at Earnest Pruett Center of Technology (EPCOT). She was hired to fill the position of Health Science II instructor, previously held by Deborah Hilley, who recently retired after 20 years of service. Adkins joins Shainah Hawes in the Medical Professions division. Hawes is the Health Science I instructor. Adkins attended Skyline High School and was a graduate of the Class of 2005. During her years at Skyline High School, Adkins was enrolled in the medical professions program at EPCOT. After high school, she attended Northeast Alabama Community College, where she earned a degree as a registered nurse. Prior to joining the school system, Adkins was a labor and delivery nurse at Highlands Medical Center. She has served as a school nurse in the Jackson County School System for 13 years. Excited about her new position, Adkins commented that Mrs. Hilley made an unforgettable impact on her life and the lives of many students over the years and hopes to continue the legacy that Mrs. Hilley has built through the program at EPCOT. “I’ll be happy if I can be half the teacher Mrs. Hilley was.” Adkins explained, “This program provided me with opportunities and work experience. I look forward to giving back to the students of Jackson County and sharing my passion for the medical field.” Amanda Adkins is married to Ben Adkins, also from Skyline. They have three children, Dalton and Hope are age 12, and Andrew is 10 years old.
