RAINSVILLE – High school students interested in career technical and training programs may take Dual Enrollment courses at Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC). Scholarships are also available for students wishing to enroll in these courses.
Opportunities for Dual Enrollment courses are available in Machine Tool Technology, Welding, Plumbing, HVAC, and more. Students enrolled in these courses will receive hands-on training from experienced and talented NACC instructors. “These courses have been put in especially for students since they are no longer available locally at tech schools in Jackson County,” stated NACC President Dr. David Campbell. “We are providing this as an opportunity to serve local students and to help train these students for jobs in our local industry.”
Dual enrollment gives Alabama’s high school students access to college-level classes that simultaneously apply to credit in both high school and college. Unlike AP honors classes in high school, a student’s grades for dual enrollment classwork are the only factor in determining whether the student receives full college credit for the class. The dual enrollment classes are delivered through various methods, including high school students attending the local college in-person, online, or a college instructor traveling to the local high school or career center to teach.
Dean of Workforce Development Kerry Wright understands the importance of these courses being accessible. In this instance, some career tech programs offer evening classes to accommodate students. “High school students can access dual enrollment courses on campus at NACC during the daytime or in evening classes and get a head start on a rewarding career in many technical areas,” said Dean Wright.

In addition to earning high school credit and receiving hands-on training, these Dual Enrollment courses also lead toward an Associate in Applied Science degree at Northeast.
Students wishing to pursue a four-year degree can rest assured that NACC courses are guaranteed to transfer. Northeast offers an education gateway to almost any career through its articulation programs with Alabama’s public four-year colleges. Under this agreement, four-year colleges in the state are required by state legislation to accept designated courses taken at a two-year college within a major. This agreement assures a smooth transition in transferring to a public four-year college to complete a degree.
