The Jackson County Commission last met on Monday, April 8, 2024 at the Jackson County Courthouse. Commission Chairman Bill Nance said the commission needed to consider its current projects as it looks to new grant opportunities. During the work session, the commission discussed the county’s:
Safety Action Plan Project; The project is in development and will be funded through the SS4A program with planning and demonstration grants and implementation grants to construct projects to reduce and eliminate roadway fatalities and serious injuries. The plan needs to be submitted by the end of the month, and routes will need to be chosen by May 16.
Strip Paving Plan; Six miles of road every year, or a mile and a half for each commissioner, at a total of $200,000.
Slope Failure Status; Looked at putting the county’s annual increase of $400,000 in the general fund into a possible natural disaster fund.
2024 Local Road Plan; Commission decided to begin making decisions for the 2024 road plan. The commission decided to postpone the resolution and final decisions on the plans. The commission also:
approved the agenda for April 8 and adopted the minutes from the March 11 meeting and work session.
approved and signed the Federal Aid Project No. LRSI-3624 Supplemental Agreement for utility relocation. The agreement between the commission and the state allows the installation of guardrails on County Roads 48 and 30 and relocates any utilities that need to be moved during the projects. The Jackson County Commission is set to meet again on April 23, 2024 at 6 p.m. in the courthouse.
