Coach Spoke – Republicans Listened
On July 20, 2019, Coach Tommy Tuberville spoke to a room
full of young Republicans at the monthly meeting of the Young Republicans of
Northeast Alabama. 50 Taters in Scottsboro hosted the standing room only event.
Chairman Dylan Smith and Vice Chairman Lewis Pitchford
endorsed Tuberville before he spoke. Smith stated, “Coach has taken a hard
stand against socialism. We have heard him speak about the dangers and evils of
socialism that are causing harm in our society today. Young Americans make up a
large voting block of the public. We need to be informed. We need to teach the
values of the free market, of individual liberties, and the importance of the
constitution.” Both Smith and Pitchford indicated those sentiments were what
made them ask Coach Tuberville to address their group.
Before Tuberville spoke, Republican House Majority Leader
Nathaniel Ledbetter, Senator Steve
Livingston, and Representative Tommy Haynes reported on their recent
legislative activities.
After the update, Alan Keller made a formal introduction of
Coach Tommy Tuberville thanking him for coming to Jackson County, Alabama to
speak to the group. A portion of Coach Tuberville’s words to the group follows.
“It is great to be in Jackson County.
I have enjoyed hunting and fishing in this area for years. Folks, we are in
trouble. What is going on in our country is not a game. I have had many people
say, Coach, you are not going to get Alabama
fans to vote for you. I reply I think they will because they realize our country
is in trouble and this is not a game. Many of the Alabama fans I have talked with have said, ‘
Coach, we couldn’t stand you as a coach, but this is not a game.’
We are in trouble, and if we don’t open our eyes, it is
going to be over. It could be over as we speak. Thank God for Donald Trump. My
wife and I will sometimes look at those Tweets he puts out and say, ‘What in
the world? You shouldn’t Tweet that.’ However, we knew what we were getting
when we elected him.
My son asked me why I voted for Donald Trump. I told him
because he is a patriot, and he doesn’t need our money. He is going to do what
is right for this country. I am running for the same reason. I want to do what
is right for the country.”
