With North Sand Mountain’s dominating 39-6 win over Class 2A Region 7 foe Whitesburg Christian on Friday, October 15, the Bison look to control their playoff destiny. NSM (3-5, 2-3) travels to fourth-seeded Falkville (4-4, 2-3) on Friday, October 22, for a game where the winner claims the region’s fourth and final playoff spot.
NSM, who has lost their last two games, came out quick and hot against Whitesburg Christian as Blake Blevins returned the opening kickoff for a 64-yard touchdown return and the 6-0 lead. Landon Keller found Blake Hill for a 27-yard touchdown reception before Mason Smith caught a 16-yard touchdown from Keller to put the Bison up 20-0 in the first quarter.
Derek Bearden earned a touchdown pass from Keller from 62-yards out and then returned an interception for 42 yards for another NSM touchdown.
NSM punched in their final score just before the break as Keller found Kaleb Helton for a 38-yard touchdown pass to give the Bison a 39-0 halftime cushion.
Keller had a career-best 197 yards on the night with four touchdown passes and completed 7-of-8 passes. Bearden led the Bison with 89 yards in the air with three caught passes, while Mason Smith had two receptions for 43 yards. Hank Farmer led the rushing yards with 50 yards on four carries, while Smith had 33 yards on five carries.
