In separate cases encountered by Jackson and DeKalb Counties law enforcement, attempts to elude proved futile for the men under arrest.
According
to a report from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies recently
received a call about a suspicious person that was going door to door in
Dutton. Shortly after arriving on the
scene, they came upon Ricky Darrell Traylor, age 27, in the area, so they stopped
to talk to him. When Traylor told
deputies who he was, they ran his name and soon discovered that Traylor had
outstanding warrants from Dade County, Georgia.
They immediately took Traylor into custody.
That’s
when things went amiss. Although
deputies handcuffed Traylor’s hands
behind his body, he somehow was able to wriggle his body around so that he
could get his hands in front of him. He
then rolled down a rear window of the vehicle and climbed out the window onto
the roof of the car, which was in motion at the time. Upon realization of his attempted escape, the
driver slammed on the brakes to shake Traylor off the vehicle. After continued attempts to elude, deputies
used a stun gun on Traylor and apprehend him for a second time. Deputies took
Traylor to the Sheriff’s office and charged him with: escape, resisting arrest, and fleeing to
elude. In addition to the charges in
Jackson County, Alabama, Traylor also faces charges in Dade County, including DUI,
assaulting a police officer, and fleeing to elude.
Jackson
County Sheriff’s Office deputies also recently went to the home of John Reaves
to execute a search warrant. According
to Chief Deputy, Rocky Harnen, Reaves was arrested and taken into custody in
the Estillfork area. The search of
Reaves residence netted: a money counter,
counterfeit cash, marijuana, as well as methamphetamine.
Reaves
fled the scene on an all-terrain vehicle, but deputies soon apprehended him in
a wooded area, shortly before he could cross the state line.
Authorities
charged him with possession of a forged instrument, possession of marijuana, and
possession of methamphetamine. The court set Reaves’s bond at $110,600.
DeKalb County Sheriff Deputies apprehended fugitive Billy Blake of Fort Payne on Friday, August 16. Blake was taken into custody after he led deputies on a brief pursuit in a motor home on County Road 732 (near Ider). He then abandoned the motor home and attempted to flee on foot when deputies captured him a short distance from the road.
The
suspect had been a fugitive after most recently walking away from Erlanger
Medical Center in Chattanooga. Blake was
admitted for treatment after he allegedly swallowed an unknown amount of
suspected methamphetamine and had slipped into a coma. He had just led Jackson and DeKalb County on a
pursuit that ended near Rainsville.
Authorities
previously arrested Blake for breaking into Henagar Junior High School and
stealing $3300 that the Beta Club had saved for a trip in 2017. Police also charged Blake with breaking into
several churches just across the county line in Jackson County. After being released from a short stay in
jail, Blake was caught again when he broke into multiple storage units in Fort
Payne. Before his apprehension Friday
night, Blake had led Jackson County officers on several other chases.
At
the time of his arrest, Blake had existing warrants in DeKalb County for
Criminal Mischief 1st Degree, Attempt to Elude, Assault 3rd Degree, Resisting
Arrest, and Reckless Endangerment. The
suspect also had existing warrants in Jackson County of Attempt to Elude (x2),
Resisting Arrest, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Failure to Register a
Vehicle, No Proof of Insurance, and Reckless Driving.
After
Friday night’s chase, Blake is facing new charges of Reckless Endangerment,
Possession of Controlled Substance, Resisting Arrest (x2), Attempt to Elude
(x2), Drug Paraphernalia, Criminal Mischief 1st Degree, Reckless
Endangerment, and Assault 3rd Degree.
