By Cinthia Rico Postseason play for local basketball teams began last week with the AHSAA area tournaments. AHSAA area tournaments are hosted by the top seed, determined during regular season play.
On Friday, the Lady Chiefs took on the Lady Indians in the Class 4A, Area 14 matchup at New Hope.
Following a tough start, the Chiefs fought to narrow the gap in the second half, posting 11 additional points with the efforts of Cameron Case, Lexi Gary and Ally Stubblefield.
Cameron Case paced North Jackson with 8 points, Ally Stubblefield and Lexi Gary each added 5 apiece; Avery Wynn had 3; and Sheyann Brown chipped in 2 for the Chiefs.
Despite their efforts, the Lady Chiefs were unable to overcome New Hope’s strong offense, who ultimately moved on to win the Area 14 championship title with a 45-42 victory over Madison County.

Boys 1A Area 15 at Skyline First Round: Athens Bible 58, Valley Head 53 Semi Final Round: Skyline 62, Athens Bible 26; Oakwood Adventist 63, Woodville 56 On Tuesday, Feb. 6, Skyline claimed the area title after defeating Oakwood Adventist 44-22.
Girls 1A Area 15 at Skyline First Round: Oakwood 63, Woodville 60 Semi Final Round: Skyline 70, Oakwood 40; Athens Bible 58, Valley Head 53 On Tuesday, Feb. 6, Skyline overpowered Athens Bible 59-32 to claim the area title.
Boys 2A Area 12 at Gaston Semi Final Round: Gaston 40, Collinsville 36; Fyffe 81, Sand Rock 56 The final was slated for Wednesday, Feb. 7, Fyffe vs. Gaston
Girls 2A Area 12 at Sand Rock Semi Final Round: Sand Rock 61, Gaston 26, Fyffe 58, Collinsville 14 On Tuesday, Feb. 6, Sand Rock defeated Fyffe 58-28 to claim the area title.
Boys 2A Area 15 at North Sand Mountain Semi Final Round: North Sand Mountain, Ider; Pisgah, Section The final was slated for Thursday, Feb. 8,
Girls 2A Area 15 at Ider Semi Final Round: Ider 66, Section 37; Pisgah 70, North Sand Mountain 55 The final was set for Wednesday, Feb 7, Ider vs. Pisgah
Boys 3A Area 14 at Plainview Semi Final Round: Plainview 66, Asbury 35; Geraldine 72, Sylvania 57 On Tuesday, Feb. 6, Geraldine edged Plainview 72-71 to claim the area title.
Girls 3A Area 14 at Plainview Semi Final Round: Plainview 72, Asbury 23; Sylvania 53, Geraldine 45 On Tuesday, Feb. 6, Plainview bested Sylvania 66-25 to claim the area title.
Boys 5A Area 13 at Sardis Semi Final Round: Sardis 81, Crossville 28; Douglas 43, Boaz 37 On Tuesday, Feb. 6, Sardis overpowered Douglas 72-59 to claim the area title.
Girls 5A Area 13 at Sardis Semi Final Round: Sardis 81, Crossville 29; Boaz 35, Douglas 24 On Tuesday, Feb 6, Boaz defeated Sardis 52-34 to claim the area title.
Boys 6A Area 13 at Fort Payne Semi Final Round: Oxford 62, Gadsden City 55 ; On Tuesday, Feb. 6, Oxford bested Fort Payne 42-39 to claim the area title.
Girls 6A Area 13 at Gadsden City Semi Final Round: Oxford 55, Fort Payne 40 On Tuesday Oxford defeated Gadsden City 45-31 to claim the area title.

Sub-regional play will take place on February 9 for girls and February 10 for boys, with the winners and runners-up from each of the 16 classes in 6A-1A area tournaments advancing.
Winners of area tournaments advance to one of four regionals by hosting a predetermined area runner-up in sub-regional play.
The four locations for the AHSAA regional tournaments are as follows: North at Wallace-Hanceville, Northeast at Jacksonville State, Central at Bill Harris Arena in Birmingham, and South at Garrett Coliseum in Montgomery. The dates of the regional tournaments are February 13–22.
