The Stevenson City Council July meeting was held on June 26, 2019. After the meeting was called to order, the council approved the minutes from the last meeting. Mayor Steele made several announcements. First, he read a thank you card from Taylor Selby, a recent North Jackson High School scholarship recipient. She thanked the council for their support and expressed her great appreciation for the gift. Mayor Steele also read the comments from a 90-year-old Chattanooga man who has attended every Depot Day so far and visited Stevenson almost every year at Christmas to see the lights since 1955. He spoke of how he loved to visit the city and meet with the people. Mayor Steele indicated this was a good reflection on the city.
In the business portion of the meeting, the council took the
following action:
Approved carrying the Senior Citizens in the city van to Crow Mountain on July 18th, 2019
Approved accepting the application for beer for Sunoco contingent on approval from the state
Approved following Governor Ivey’s example and allowing city employees to be off work on July 5, 2019, if they choose to do so
Approved the purchase of a 40ft trailer for the Fire Department for $2,500.00
Approved the emergency purchase of a fire truck to replace the wrecked truck for $27,000.00
The mayor made an additional announcement concerning the
batting cage or the city building ball players use for batting and pitching
practice. The city recently painted and repaired the building. Individuals
wishing to use the facility must contact the city for entry into the building.
The city will also inspect the building after its use. The next Stevenson City
Council meeting is Thursday, July 11, 2019.
