The Skyline Vikings finished as the Class 1A Boys Northeast Regional runner-up falling to Oakwood Academy 50-58 during last week’s championship matchup at Pete Mathews Coliseum.
Skyline’s Will Avans led the Vikings’ offensive efforts scoring 15 points. Bryant Kennamer netted 13 points and had four steals, Jayten Prince tallied nine points, including six rebounds; Scott York added six points, and Chase Bickers finished with four points and four rebounds.
A fourth-quarter rally lifted Oakwood Academy past Skyline, who captured an early 16-14 in the opening quarter.
Avans sank three 3s in the first half, and Kennamer added two 3-point shots for the Vikings.
At intermission, Oakwood 27-26. The Vikings put together a strong second-half performance accumulating 20 points in the third quarter and limiting Oakwood to eight points.
The Vikings continued battling as Avans and Kennamer closed third-quarter scoring with a pair of layups.
In the final frame, Oakwood’s Walden netted five free throws with less than 30 seconds left of regulation en route to a 50-58 win.
Skyline’s Will Avans, Bryant Kennamer, and Jayten Prince were named to the Class 1A All-Tournament Team along with Faith Christian’s Thomas Curlee and Oakwood Academy’s Camden Edwards, Jayden Nesbitt, and Jonathan Walden (MVP).
