North Sand Mountain varsity boys collected a dominating 86-69 victory over Sylvania last week in Higdon.
Chandler Sullivan led the Bison in double-digits scoring a game-high 25 points. 16 of the 25 points he netted in the opening quarter as NSM built a 13-point advantage.
Catching flight early on, at the half, the Bison led 47-38 before picking up speed in the second half, adding 20 additional points in the third.
NSM’s second-half performance put the game out of reach for the Rams as they attempted to hold on.
In the final frame, the Bison further their advantage by 19 points en route to an 86-69 win.
Nyle Poore added 15 points, including three 3s, Landon Keller had 14 points, Andrew Palmer finished with 11 points, Brody Helton tallied seven points, and Kaden Brown and Jack Johnson each had five points.
Joshua Scott paced the Rams with 17 points, Logan Wilks added 15 points, Griffin Turner tallied 12 points, Griffin Haygood had eight points, whistle Drake Whisenants and Gavin Chambers both finished with six points apiece, Jonah Gurley chipped in three points and B Kittle two points.
Girls
Sylvania 72, NSM 64
North Sand Mountain varsity girls fell 72-64 against Sylvania in last week’s heated matchup in Higdon.
The two teams delivered an exciting performance as they traded shots and challenged each other for the lead.
Kayden Reyes led the Bison in double-digits with a game-high 25 points, which included NSM’s second-half rally.
Ambriel Stopyak reclaimed the ball and connected with Avery Jenkins for an 18-13 first-quarter advantage.
The second quarter saw multiple ties as the Bison and Rams continued going head-to-head.
NSM’s Kam Patterson kicked off the second quarter netting a 3-pointer from the right, the first of three that helped tie the game at 22 midway through the frame.
Sylvania’s Stopyak answered with a 3-point shot to tie the game at 32 with a few seconds left till the half.
Strong offensive efforts and steals helped the Rams overpower NSM. Sylvania pulled away in the third quarter building a 14-point advantage.
Kam Patterson added 18 points on six 3-point shots for the Bison. Kolbre Bobo had 9 points, Ella Spurgin finished with six points, Madison Renfro had four points, and Ashley Shrader chipped in two points.
Anna Murdock led Sylvania in double-digit scoring with 21 points. Ambriel Stopyak and Leianna Currie, both finished with 13 apiece, including Currie’s three 3s, Lilly Frost netted 12 points, Harlee Turner added nine points, and Avery Jenkins chipped in four points for the Rams.
