Over the holiday break, Scottsboro High School hosted the Don Webb Classic welcoming various teams from across the state to its three-day tourney.
Scottsboro varsity girls closed out play overpowered No. 6-ranked Southside-Selma 59-31.
Bree Sexton led the Wildcats with 17 points as Scottsboro built a 20-6 early advantage. Madison Rains added 16 points, Adair Holland contributed 10 points, Morgan Perkins chipped in eight, Maggie Armstrong added four and Keira Culver scored two points.
Scottsboro defeated Susan Moore 56-72 before taking on Southside-Selma.
For the boys, Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa edged Scottsboro 82-73 behind a late rally.
Coming off a 74-26 win over Keith 74-26, the Wildcats fought to keep their lead until the end.
Tyson Sexton and Seth Whitmire led the Wildcats with 18 points each. Parker Bell added 11 points, Kyle Wright contributed seven, Davon Walker and Jake Jones each netted five, Jameson Gray chipped in four points and Ethan Roberts had two for Scottsboro.
Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa’s DJ Hamlett finished with a game-high 25 points and Osa Alohan added 14 points, including a strong final frame finish.
In the final, Athens bested Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 51-39.
