Story By Cinthia Rico Scottsboro closed its 2022 season falling 35-10 against No. 2-ranked Leeds in the second round of Class 5A playoffs at Homer Smiles Field. The Wildcats accumulated 181 total yards to Leeds’ 331 yards, 201 rushing, and 130 passing. Leeds took an early 7-0 lead in the game as Conner Nelson broke free for a 7-yard touchdown following a 16 and 31-yard reception. Jackson Arthur booted the first of five points for the evening. They added 14 points in the second frame, and C.J. Douglas scored on a 78-yard reverse with less than two minutes left of the quarter. At intermission, Leeds led 21-3. Entering the second half, Scottsboro hit the field with some momentum as quarterback Jakes Jones capped a 12-play scoring drive for a 22-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter making it 21-10. Leeds answered with quarterback Jarod Latte connecting with Jaelyn Felder on a 48-yard pass, capped by a scoring run from Jeremiah Hunter. Leeds managed to score on five of its seven possessions while holding the Wildcats to 10 points. Jones led Scottsboro with more than 107 yards and a touchdown and added 21 carries. Leeds’ Latta went 8-for-10 passing for 130 yards, a touchdown and one interception.
