Story By Cinthia Rico The North Sand Mountain Bison capped their season at Lexington last Friday night at McMeans Stadium. With a 4-7 overall record and 4-3 in the region, the Bison’s 2022 playoff appearance marks the seventh under the direction of head coach Keith Kirby. Lexington built an overwhelming 49-0 first-half cushion en route to a first-round playoff victory over the Bison. The Golden Bears got things started, with an early touchdown run in the opening quarter. Lexington continued their offensive grind with another scoring drive in the second frame. A few plays later, James Lard connected with a teammate for a touchdown pass, making it 20-0. The Bears added five more scoring runs, including a punt return for a touchdown, holding NSM scoreless at the half. The Bison found their footing in the second half when Landon Keller found Kaden Moore on a 26-yard pass rushing for a 1-yard touchdown in the third to cut the score to 49-6. The point after failed. On their next possession, NSM marched into Lexington territory for their final scoring run, making it 49-14 at the end of the third quarter. Kayden Gilley finished with 28 yards rushing on 10 carries for the Bison. Keller went 12 of 23 passing for 147 yards, Nyle Poore had three catches for 61 yards, and Moore caught two passes for 50 yards.
