Scottsboro’s standout and Auburn University signee Evan Hill clocked in first place individually, pacing Scottsboro to a team second-place finish in the varsity boys 5k at the Last Chance Invitational at John R. Esslinger Trail of Champions last Thursday.
Hill crossed the finish line at 14:52.02, setting a new course record and placing in the 2022 Top-25 national time under 15-minute. Hill was followed by Stephen Jones in 5th place.
Scottsboro’s Alley Campbell paced the Wildcats varsity girls with a first-place finish in the varsity girls 5k race.
Campbell clocked in at 19:10.60, followed by Emma Bradford (19:13.71) in 2nd place and Fort Payne’s Anahi Barboza (19:21.30) in third. The Scottsboro girls’ team accumulated 82 points and finished in second place behind Fort Payne with 60 points and Oak Mountain (92) took third.
Scottsboro’s JV Boys team placed 4th overall with a combined 119 points, paced by Keyton Allen (12:36.90), Sawyer McWilliams (12:49.29), Ismael Felix (13:00.91), Andrew Barber (13.17.96), Sam Thomas Roney (13:22.02), Carter Hodges (13:25.60) and Brady Turner (13:46.54).
Leo Chaparro paced Section, clocking in at 20:16.13, Woodville’s Trent Hills finished with a time of 21:18.20, and North Sand Mountain’s Branson Beardon crossed the finish line at 37:27.90.
This week, local teams joined teams from the surrounding area for the 2022 AHSAA 1A-5A Section Championships in Scottsboro. Results were not available before press time.
