Staff Reports • Photo by Cinthia Rico Scottsboro dominated Boaz in a 36-12 victory at last Friday’s Class 5A, Region 7 opener at Dr. L.F. Corley Jr. Stadium. The Wildcats secured an early 21-0 lead, capitalizing on three Pirate turnovers within the first three plays of Boaz’s three possessions. Jake Jones slid past the Pirates’ defense for a 1-yard touchdown early in the game. Cole Raeuchle’s extra point brought the score to 7-0. Jones scored a 10-yard second TD after a J.C. Heikkinen fumble recovery, and Raeuchle’s PAT gave Scottsboro a 14-0 advantage in the second quarter. Jayden Gilbert took advantage of Luke Terrell’s interception for a 2-yard run. Boaz rallied for Tristan Childers’ 3-yard touchdown. Jose Arreguin’s PAT brought the score to 21-7. With less than three minutes left of the first half, Arreguin kicked a 27-yard field goal cutting the lead to 21-10. In the third, Thomas Rackler capped on a Wildcats 81-yard drive with a 30-yard TD and a good Raechle PAT. Keelan Alverez added Scottsboro’s final TD with a 3-yard run with less than five minutes left in the game. Rackler led the Wildcats with 72 yards on six carries. Scottsboro enters a bye week before returning next Friday and traveling to Arab.
