Fans lined the fence and filled the bleachers as the Section Lions took on the Valley Head Tigers last Friday night. With onlookers watching from every angle as the two battled for dominance, Valley Head edged Section 26-20 in overtime play. The Lions took an early lead at the start of the first when Dylan Pope connected with Brayden Williams for a 64-yard touchdown pass. Hunter Robinson delivered the equalizer in the third quarter with a 64-yard touchdown pass for the Tigers. Section answered with a Jr. Walker’s 32-yard touchdown run before Robinson rushed for another TD, and Eian Bain added a 2-point conversion run bringing the score up to 18-14. Early in the fourth, the Lions countered with a Cameron Summerford 27-yard touchdown run and a 2-point conversion. With 25 seconds remaining in regulation, Robinson, who accounted for 142 yards rushing, scored on a 3-yard run and added a 2-point conversion run to tie the game and force overtime at 20-20. The Tigers rallied in the extra period as Bain rushed for a 20-yard touchdown to win the game 26-20. Valley Head’s win marked the first of the last seven times the two teams have met on the field. The Tigers host Decatur Heritage Christian Academy on Friday at 7 p.m. as they begin Class 1A, Region 7 play. Section travels to Collinsville for its Class 2A, Region 7 matchup.
