Scottsboro High School recently welcomed Kevin Thompson as its new head softball coach. Thompson, former North Jackson softball coach, replaces Roby Johnson, who stepped down after eight years as head coach. North Jacksons’ 2022 softball team finished third in the state, closing its season with a 46-13 record, a Jackson County Championship, area Championship, and regional championship. His team set and broke many school records. Under his leadership, his team secured five state tournament appearances. In 2021 the Chiefs clinched the North Jackson softball program’s first Class 4A State Championship title in history. Thompson completed five seasons at North Jackson with a stint at Skyline High School in 2017. In 2021, he was named the 2021 Class 4A Coach of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association, following the Chiefs state championship. In a statement, Thompson said he enjoyed his time at North Jackson, referring to his time as “a great five years,” and said he is excited to get started at Scottsboro. His appointment was made official during the last June Jackson County Board of Education meeting, following his resignation from North Jackson High School on June 2, 2022. The Wildcats capped their 2022 season 28-13-1 and claimed their second consecutive Class 6A Area 15 championship.
