No. 8-ranked Scottsboro shutout No.7 Fort Payne 5-1, claiming the Class 6A, Area 15 tournament title and earning a spot in this week’s AHSAA East Central Regionals at Sand Mountain Park in Albertville. Anna Dawson on the mound stuck out six and walked one, allowing two hits and one run over five innings. Alyssa Smart pitched in relief for two innings. Lexie Bennett opened up scoring, off an Olivia Tubbs single to center field in the first inning. Haylen Miles scored at the bottom of the second for a 2-0 advantage. Scottsboro pulled away for good at the bottom of the sixth after Miles scored off a single from Ella Lee. The offensive efforts added two more runs. Scottsboro racked up nine hits with Tubbs, Bennett each firing off multiple hits. Kyleigh Thomas took the loss for Fort Payne, allowing nine hits and five runs over six innings. A.J. Kramer nailed a homer at the top of the fourth for Fort Payne’s lone run. On Tuesday, Scottsboro fell 7-3 to Springville on the opening day of the East Central Regionals in Albertville. Lexie Bennett recorded stole base number 54 for the season, she now holds Scottsboro High Schools record for stolen bases in a single season. After the loss Scottsboro fell into the elimination bracket and plays Pell City in an elimination game on Wednesday. The game was not completed before press time.
