On March 14, 2022, Jackson County Commission Chairman Bill Nance read three resolutions approved by the full Jackson County Commission honoring the Jackson County teams that advanced to the final state championship game. Chairman Nance stated, “We are proud of all the student-athletes that we have across the County and the contributions they have made to their schools and Jackson County. We are certainly proud of the fact that we had three of our County basketball teams make it to the final game of the state tournament. We would like to recognize those teams with resolutions because they are true champions worthy of high praise and recognition.” The Commissioners will present the resolutions to the teams at their respective schools at a later date.
During the business portion of the meeting, the Commission approved the following motions:
• $2,550.00 to Mike Ashburn to test the new voting machines and the new handicap voting machines in each precinct; to provide support on election day for any possible repairs to the machines and also to deliver a voting tabulator and screen to the courtroom to total the votes cast in the election
• Approve a one-year contract with Foster’s Acquatic Vegetation Removal LLC to remove the aquatic weeds around a Jackson County landing
• Approve the High Top Resurfacing Agreement between the Jackson County Commission and the Town of High Top to share the costs of resurfacing projects at High Top with the town contributing $60,000.00 and the County contributing the remaining balance
• Resolution authorizing the allocation of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds for eligible water infrastructure projects
The next meeting will be on March 28, 2022.
