In John 2:1-2, we read “And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage”. Jesus was intentionally “called” or invited to this wedding, and He went. If you would like Jesus to show up in your marriage, He needs to be invited.
How do you invite Jesus into your marriage? To start with, you have to invite Him into your life. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved”. What does it mean to “call upon the name of the Lord”? First, it means that you believe Jesus Christ can and will save you. It means that you believe that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world, that He is the Son of God who came to earth to save us. It means you believe the message of John 3:16. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”. Second, it means that you call Jesus Christ Lord. It means that you surrender yourself and dedicate yourself to serve Jesus Christ throughout life. “He is Lord of all, or He is not Lord at all”.
Jesus blessed the marriage at Cana of Galilee because he was invited to it. There is a lesson in that passage that Christians need to learn. Just because we are Christians, does not mean that we need to stop inviting Jesus to share in different aspects of our lives. In Revelation 3:20, Jesus says to the “church of the Laodiceans”, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me”. Jesus was speaking to “the church”, but they had shut Him out of part, if not most, of their lives. They, like so many others, got “saved” and thought that was it. That was all they needed, they thought. Paul said, “That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings”, Philippians 3:10.
Invite Jesus into your marriage. Invite Him into your home. Ask Him to go to work with you. Take Him with you on vacation. Just see what a difference it makes!
