Memorial Day is a great example of how traditions and holidays can evolve over time. But, the most important thing is to remember those who sacrificed for our country and to thank those who still are out there every day in harm’s way to protect our freedoms. It’s about our employee’s and our citizens because many of them and their families are veterans. They continue to make us safer, better, and more aware of what it means to serve. Stevenson is truly fortunate to have them. I always think of the sacrifices and dedication our service men and women made to our country. But as I travel around our city and see all the flags displayed in yards and all around, it is promising to know that our citizens appreciate our armed forces today. I am proud to be working for every one of you. Memorial Day was started as more of a “decoration day” in the United States to provide recognition at the gravesites of soldiers as far back as the Civil War. It became a stronger tradition as the world saw several major conflicts. Memorial Day (May 27, 2019) will be another time to show our appreciation and our gratitude for those who serve our country. Take the time this Memorial Day to thank those who have and will continue to protect our freedom.
