The defending Class 1A Girls state champion defeated the Class 3A runner-up from last season on Friday night. The Skyline Vikings defeated Sylvania 67-46 and earned their eighth consecutive win (8-3). The Vikings were down 13-11 after the first quarter but led 32-26 by halftime and extended their lead 52-36 after three quarters. Kaina King and Blakely Stucky each scored 14 points for the Vikings while Lexie Stucky had 12 and Kenzie Manning had 11 points.
Scottsboro lost the edge in Friday nights game against their fellow Wildcat Fort Payne. Fort Payne rallied in the fourth quarter to take the 36-35 victory. Scottsboro (4-6, 0-1) went on a 13-0 run in the first quarter to take the 16-9 lead after the first. The Wildcats continued to lead 22-19 by halftime and 28-26 at the end of three but Fort Payne took the lead with 1:33 remaining in the final frame. Audrey Holland led Scottsboro with 11 points while Jadaya Edmondson scored eight.
Section took the 39-34 victory over NSM to secure a Class 2A Area 15 win Friday night. Section (2-5, 1-1) led 13-9 after one quarter before taking the 29-16 halftime advantage. Madison Armstrong scored a game-high 19 points for Section while Savannah White netted 13. Kayden Reyes led NSM (5-3, 0-1) with 11 points.
Woodville dominated Gaylesville 53-14 after the Panthers held Gaylesville scoreless in the first quarter. The Panthers earned their second Class 1A Area 13 win. Woodville took a 35-7 halftime cushion before stretching it to 47-9 after the third quarter. Jessica Sirten scored a game-high 23 points for the Panthers while Alexis Brown added 11.
Pisgah extended their home winning streak to 54 games after they defeated Ider 65-55 in a Class 2A Area 15 win on Friday night. Pisgah (7-1, 2-0) led 24-9 after the first quarter but the Hornets cut the deficit to 35-33 by halftime. Pisgah outscored the Hornets 16-11 in the fourth quarter to seal the win. Molly Heard scored a game-high 26 points for the Eagles while Kallie Tinker added 15 points and eighth-grader Campbell Barron netted 13 points. Ider’s Savannah Seals scored 20 points.
