On Monday, November 8, 2021, the Bridgeport City Council met. Mayor Hughes and all the Council thanked all the Veterans for their service and encouraged everyone to lift the veterans up in prayer. Mayor Hughes said he appreciated everyone who came out and supported Bridgeport’s Trunk or Treat and all who worked the event. The Mayor said 300 hot dogs were given away, and the turnout was good for a drizzly night.
During the meeting, the Council approved the following items:
• Resolution 11-08-2021 showing support for the Tennessee RiverLine Project
• $3.200.00 to purchase a clock to display downtown
• $1,500.00 COVID Bonus for full-time employees and a $500.00 COVID Bonus for part-time employees who have worked at least six months (Those working fewer than six months will receive a smaller bonus)
• Retirement of Police Chief Charles Bunch after 27 years of service (Will continue working in a part-time position)
After the business was completed, the Council reported on several items. Councilmember Joe Stovall stated that he had someone look at the damage to the roof at the depot, and they are evaluating what needs to be done to fix it. Councilmember Barry Hughes thanked everyone who took part in the 2020 Census, and he said, because of their efforts, Bridgeport will be classified as a city until the next census. Hughes also stated he would contact TARCOG to find out what grants are available for Bridgeport. Mayor Hughes announced that State Road 277 will be paved soon, and anyone suffering damage from the paving should report it to the state road department. The Mayor also said the North Jackson Chiefs Lady Softball State Championship sign had been relocated to a better spot out of the state right-of-way.
The next Bridgeport City Council meeting is scheduled for November 22, 2021.
